Exemple de réalisations : VENUS IN FUR

"The body of work Venus in Fur is comprised of three interrelated projects entitled Becoming Animal, The Desiring Machines, and je possède LE LOUVRE. Each project is transformed through the interchanging of body parts and the addition of animal accessories such as heads, tails, and fur, intertwining and unbinding images, objects and meaning.

Becoming Animal is a series of photographs of puppets attached with telephone wire to my fingers and toes. As extensions of myself, the puppets transform human into animal, documenting a metamorphosis. In The Desiring Machines, sculptures of body parts are deconstructed from an installation and attached to motorized, mechanical toys which run schizophrenically about the room. (As Gilles Deleuze writes, "A schizophrenic out for a walk is better than a neurotic on the couch.") This project also includes a video of the work made in collaboration with Richard Ledes.

In je possède LE LOUVRE, I take postcards of familiar works and appropriate them. For instance, Velasquez' L'infante becomes a wolf (or "loup" in French). Ingres' Mademoiselle Rivière becomes Bronzino's sculptor as Bronzino's sculptor becomes Mademoiselle Rivière. For this project, I offered the postcards to friends, artists, writers and philosophers and asked each to write a sentence and return the postcard to me so that the postcard would exist in time and space. Jacques Derrida, Jean-Luc Nancy, and Didi-Huberman were among the collaborators. As an installation, each postcard is hung from transparent wire with the images suspended on one side and the text on the other allowing the viewer to navigate from image to text and back again."

Venus in Fur was made in Paris and New York, and inspired by the writing and theory of Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari.
